“Selected Poems,” An International Design Collaboration of Statement Hair Jewelry by Dauphines of New York x Sora Magazine

On the 15th of September 2022, a collection of statement Hair Jewelry, titled “Selected Poems,” was unveiled in Barcelona, Spain. This international design collaboration was the production of Sabela Nieto of Sora Magazine (Barcelona, Spain) and Summer Rej of Dauphines of New York (New York, NY).

“Selected Poems” will also be presented on the 28, 29, and 30th of October at the revered SHOPS Barcelona, taking place at Drassanes Reials de Barcelona, (Royal Shipyards of Barcelona).

About the Collection:

“Selected Poems,” our collection of statement hair jewelry, evolved following discussions and ideas between Sabela and Summer. Meetings took place over the course of a year of in Barcelona’s El Born stylish neighborhood, at the time the chosen location of Sora Magazine’s retail shop. Sabela and Summer discussed amongst the backdrop of Sora designs, and ideas merged and developed. We have created a collection of hair jewelry by combining the two aesthetics: Sora’s edgy perspectives mixed with Dauphines’ classic styles.

Style names are derived from Emily Dickinson poems - a meeting place for the two continents that each brand represents: a North American poet with a romantic European heart. Referencing the fact that her poems do not have titles and are instead referred to by the first line, our designs hope to open dialogue and interpretation.

The collection includes a concise selection of headpieces (crowns and tiaras plated in Silver, accented with spikes and sparkling cascading clear crystals). In addition to crowns and tiaras, we offer a selection of delicate solid headbands in silver accented with sparkling crystals in navette shape or oversize gems. Our solid headbands are presented in sets – we suggest stacking a few at a time. The collection includes barrettes (classic and ponytail), available in 18K Gold, Silver, and Gunmetal. Barrette designs include an oversize flower with spike centerpiece, cross inspired clips, sleek studded designs, and spike covered design in varying sizes featuring pearls and sparkling crystals. Styles are infused with punk spikes, sparkling crystals, subtle pearls of white, ivory, and silver. We utilize crystals in clear and vibrant gem tones.

All styles are assembled by hand by experienced jewelers in the US using a process of soldering and plating. Styles feature a copper base, plated in 18K Gold, Silver, and Gunmetal, using fine soldering techniques applied to jewelry – making these styles true jewelry for the hair.

Pricing starts at $68 USD / Euros and averages around $168 USD / Euros. Styles are currently available exclusively via e-commerce in very limited quantities due to the extremely detailed level of production involved in each piece.

About the Launch Presentation:

Guests were invited to attend a presentation launch party, held at the newly opened L'Eixample location of La Whiskeria, a prestigious whisky bar whose first location has been a revered El Raval staple for many years.

This setting provided the back-drop for a presentation of four models, Miss Globe Dolores Couceiro, Gerard Masmitjà, Carla Cute, and Royo, each of whom was dressed in clothing by Sora and Hair Jewelry from the collaboration between the two designers. Prop and set styling were envisioned by Irene Boixet, who selected vintage decorative items to showcase the collection atop La Whiskeria’s antique furniture.

The setting of La Whiskeria provided the perfect backdrop to showcase the collaboration between Sora Magazine x Dauphines of New York. Antique furniture backed by hundreds of bottles of fine whiskey amidst dark lighting evoked feelings of gatherings from years past, while models lounged and mingled with guests in attendance. The event drew a number of notable Spanish guests, including artists such as legendary basketball player and Barça Ambassador Audie Norris, Jewelry Designers Susana Couceiro and Nasty Starbust Dalsy, Artists Carlotto Rose and Psychoudini, Model Lucía Vilar, Bag Designer Pepita Chiringo, and cinematographer Macizo Cinema. Guests sipped on red wine, and following the event, they were invited to attend a private whiskey tasting hosted by Drammers Club, visiting from New York.

About Sora Magazine:

Sora Magazine was founded by Galician designer Sabela Nieto in 2014 guided by the many inputs and ideas surrounding her ever-changing world who one day found that a bunch of deadstock fabrics and antique patterns translated all this information into sheer, bold statement garments that she could send floating into a dreamy chiaroscuro world. Alongside they came other tangible experiences such as performances, talks, concerts, online and printed publications and artistic expressions of several sorts that appear and disappear in the real world. Always aimed to share her inner universe to the world and in the search of major talents to collaborate with as an output to the whirlwind inside. Lúa Gándara, Psychoudini, Carlotto Rose, Enguany have been her latest guests.

TV and radio Host and influencer Aïda Camprubi has been the brand’s ambassador since 2020.
